Causes of Leaking Faucets

Given enough time, even a small leak can lead to big problems. Leaking faucets can waste thousands of litres of water, costing you a lot of money. They can also lead to more expensive problems in your plumbing.

Typical causes of leaking faucets include:

Problems with the O-ring. Keeping the handle in place, the O-ring can become loose or wear out and cause dripping near the handle.

Corroded valve seat. Connecting the faucet and the spout, the valve seat can accumulate water sediments that cause corrosion and leakage around the spout.

Worn out/improperly installed washer. Rubbing against the valve seat, the washer can wear out from friction and cause dripping near the spout.

Loose parts. Parts become loose with continuous usage, so there could be leakage from the handle of your sink.

Worn out seals. Sediment can accumulate inside the assembly and cause the seals to wear out which leads to leaking faucets.

Broken plumbing. Dripping faucets can sometimes be caused by broken pipes or fittings. Cracked pipes and other issues can interfere with the water pressure which will lead to leaks.
